This tour includes all the highlights of the ‘Get Orientated’ tour but also allows time to stop for a coffee at a famous Roman café or sample a gelato at one of the best places in town. Italy is a food mecca. Each city has its own unique dishes and traditions handed down from generation to generation. During the tour, discover the best food in Rome, from coffee and cornetti to pizza and gelato as we make our way through the historic center of Rome, snacking all the while we learn about Roman culinary traditions, past and present, and Rome's street food. We will start our walk by sampling some of the staples of the Roman cuisine, pizza and bread. You will visit a bread maker where you will sample fresh from the oven ' pizza al taglio ' or pizza by the slice as we know it. At this historical forno you will soak in the ambience while munching on a few local pizza varieties.
You will visit a family-run artisan gelateria. Here you will have the chance to watch gelato being made while we talk about the art & history of gelato making in Italy. Witness first hand what the most delicious gelato in Rome is made from and what distinguishes it from the more readily found commercial variety. From here you will visit a renowned artisan coffee bar. The history of these establishments, the ritual coffee plays in Roman life and what it is that makes a perfect espresso or cappuccino will be explored. If the roasting schedule coincides with our visit, you will have the chance to see a roasting demonstration before savoring a delicious coffee. Gnosh on some mouth watering artisan chocolates found in only a few boutique chocolate shops.
With the passing of time and Rome’s popularity as a tourist destination, true artisans are hard to come by so this stop is treasure. The walk will end at the former Jewish Ghetto, where you will sample some scrumptious pastries and renowned fried antipasti which make up a large part of traditional Roman-Jewish cuisine. At the end of this tour you will come away with an understanding of the culinary traditions of Rome.
